Our pieces are labelled ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium. This means the metal has passed rigorous testing and is approved for use inside the human body, even for permanent surgical implants. What Is a Mill, and Why Does It Matter?
A mill is an industrial facility that produces raw metal under controlled conditions, like titanium rods or bars. These facilities are responsible for alloying, processing, and certifying the metal. Reputable mills issue what’s known as a Material Test Certificate or Mill Certificate, which provides a full breakdown of the alloy’s elemental composition and compliance with standards like ASTM F136.

While mill certifications are crucial, they are based on the metal before it is machined, polished, or handled by manufacturers. This is why our quality control team at Inferno Body Jewellery also commissions independent third-party material testing after the jewellery has been produced.
This extra step allows us to verify that the titanium remains fully compliant after manufacturing processes like CNC machining, polishing, anodizing, and stone setting. We can detect any possible contamination or deviation that could occur during production.
